The recent announcement by the Federal Labor Government about a new battery rebate has generated a lot of excitement – and rightly so. The initiative promises to make home battery storage more accessible for everyday Australians, helping households reduce energy costs and improve energy independence.

However, it’s important to note that this rebate is not yet legislated.

🕒 Where Things Stand Now

At this stage, the rebate has only been announced. While it has government backing, it still needs to go through the formal legislative process. We’re expecting legislation to pass in early June 2025, with the rebate becoming claimable from the 1^st of July as announced byThe Hon. Chris Bowen MP . But until it’s officially passed, nothing is guaranteed.

We’ve already seen some companies promoting battery deals based on the proposed rebate — but we encourage all customers to proceed with caution.

Do not sign contracts or pay deposits on the assumption that you’ll receive this rebate. If you do, and the legislation is delayed or amended, you could be left out of pocket or with a system that doesn’t meet the eligibility criteria.
